The 2008 Vienna Turkey Trot was held on Sunday, November 9. Congratulations to all of the Participants.

More than 350 runners competed in the 6th Annual Vienna Turkey Trot 5k on a beautiful Sunday morning. The event was a joint effort between the James Madison High School Band, the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department, the Vienna Wireless Society, and the Vienna Police Department. It raised funds for the Madison Band and the Vienna Fire Department.

Justin Fritzius,24, of Purcellville, finished first place with a time of 15:55.4. He was followed by Madison physical education teacher Craig Chasse, of Reston, in second place overall, and Monte Hawkins, of Arlington, finishing third.

Finishing first in the women's division was Dionis Gauvin, 34, of Washington, D.C. with a time of 19:24.9. In second and third places, respectively, were Monique Rico, of Aldie, and Debbie McLaughlin, of Vienna.

Vienna Mayor Jane Seeman welcomed the runners, and presented awards and prizes. She was assisted by Councilwoman Edythe Frankel-Kelleher and Delegate Steve Shannon. Mr. Shannon and Senator Chap Petersen both raced in the event.

The first place men’s and women’s finishers were awarded a Thanksgiving turkey.
